KNOW BEFORE THEY CHEW

THREE IMPORTANT TIPS

Puppies

Our original guide advised limiting chew sessions for puppies under 6–8 months to about 15–20 minutes, since consuming too much rich marrow at once may upset their stomachs.

Important: Puppies have developing teeth. Ask your veterinarian before offering any hard antler chew; many puppies should avoid them altogether.

Older Dogs

Our original guide advises against antlers for dogs with dental problems and older dogs who may be more vulnerable to tooth problems.

Boiling was mentioned in the original guide, but softening does not reliably remove the risk of tooth fractures. Ask your veterinarian about softer alternatives.

Safety First

Always supervise your dog with any chew. Discard an antler when it becomes small enough to swallow, develops sharp points, or shows damage.

Antlers are extremely hard and can crack teeth or create choking and digestive hazards, even with supervision.

FIND THE RIGHT FIT

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Dogs have different chewing habits and preferences. Indiana Antler Supply offers deer, elk, and moose antlers, including whole-antler options.

Choose a size that cannot be swallowed whole, and consider your dog's age, dental health, and chewing intensity. A veterinarian can help you decide whether antlers are appropriate.

Stop chewing immediately if you notice bleeding, mouth pain, a damaged tooth, gagging, or broken pieces.
